Adrienne Lei Lani Garcia Koon, 66, of Eagle River passed away quietly in her sleep on June 30, 2019, at the family fishing cabin following years of living with Multiple Sclerosis. Funeral service were held on July 12, 2019, at Delta United Presbyterian Church. Burial followed at the Rest Haven Cemetery. Pastor Richard Mauer of Delta United Presbyterian Church presided. Funeral arrangements were handled by Chapel of Chimes in Fairbanks. A follow-up memorial service was held at the Eagle River Presbyterian Church on July 20, 2019.
Adrienne was born in La Junta, Colorado on August 22, 1952, to Simon and Rose Lydia Leigh Garcia. She graduated from Louisville High School in Louisville Colorado. Adrienne married Robert Koon on May 20, 1972. The newlyweds moved to Delta Junction, Alaska, in 1973. Adrienne and Robert had two daughters, Caroline and Rose Koon. They were married 47 years.
Adrienne worked as a cook for the Delta/Greely School District and later at the Child Development Center at Fort Richardson. She enjoyed reading, beading, photography, and studying the Bible. Adrienne loved sightseeing, fishing on Alaska’s rivers and in Prince William Sound, and spending time with friends and family. She was especially fond of the time she spent at the family cabin in Snug Corner Cove in Prince William Sound.
Adrienne is survived by her husband, Robert; her daughter Rose; her sisters Delores Garcia Fergurson, Mildred Garcia Pierce, and Lydia Garcia Todt; her brothers Damon Garcia, George Garcia, and Christopher Garcia; and other family and friends. Adrienne is preceded in death by her daughter, Caroline; her parents, Simon and Rose Garcia; and her parents-in-law, Robert and Lavonne Koon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Red Cross of Alaska in Anchorage, or the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The family of Adrienne Koon wishes to thank the Alaska State Troopers stationed in Valdez for their professional and compassionate assistance in the sudden loss of Adrienne.
