Donald A. Schuelke, age 48, a familiar smile in Delta Junction has left us. He affectionately referred to himself as “The Don”, a reference to the movie The Godfather. His smile, laughter, wit, and sarcasm were infectious. He was always laughing and joking.
Donald arrived in Alaska with his parents and four brothers in 1980. He attended Fort Greely/Delta Junction schools, graduating in 1992.
He worked part-time at his father’s business, Delta Appliance and TV until graduating and transitioning into the field of automotive mechanics. He spent several years working for Jim Dorff, before branching out on his own, opening Don’s Auto.
He became well known for being a great mechanic. Not only known as a great mechanic, but also a trustworthy, reliable, and honest businessman. After many years of being the owner/operator of Don’s Auto, he decided to leave the state of Alaska for warmer, greener pastures. He moved to Dunnellon, Florida.
His love for automotive work took him to North Dakota, the North Slope, Kenai, and eventually back to Delta Junction. He was the lead mechanic and diagnostician at Delta Eastside Truck and Auto.
Donald passed away peacefully from a long-term illness on December 2, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sylvia D. Schuelke (Wirshels) and August W. Schuelke, Sr. His surviving siblings are living in Texas and Florida: August W. Schuelke, Jr., John J. Schuelke, Robert M. Schuelke, and Scott D. Schuelke.
The family is planning a small, private celebration of life in the Spring at Donald’s home in Florida.
