Nancy Ellis, 70 of Delta Junction passed away peacefully at her home in the early morning of May 30, 2022. Born on July 19, 1951 in Johnstown Ohio, she couldn't wait to see the world and was delivered by her father in the backseat of the family car in her grandparent’s backyard.
The family spent the majority of their childhood in Oregon and moved to Sitka, Alaska in 1966 where she enjoyed the outdoors and first fell in love with Alaska. After graduating High School in 1969, she went to beautician school in Renton, Washington at Mr. Lee’s Beauty School. While living in Washington she got married and had her three sons.
In 1982 she relocated back to Delta Junction where even through a divorce she remained very close to her in-laws who visited her throughout the year and still referred to her as Aunt Nancy. In 1985 Nancy met her lifelong partner, Travis Czechowski, Ski for those who knew him. She was proud to be a business owner of Nancy Ann’s Hair Boutique and would often say she found a great career as she was blessed with the gift of gab.
Nancy and family moved to Sitka in 1988 where she applied her trade. However, in 1990 the great north called them back to Delta Junction where she would remain a part of the community for the rest of her life. Joined by her sister Cassy a short time later, the sisters opened His and Hers styling working out of the Nistler building and later the Texaco Building. They both continued to work there until they retired from the business. During these years she worked very hard to raise her three boys into young men.
She enjoyed watching her oldest Calvin in plays and musicals and would tell everyone whenever he was in a theater productions. Nancy also admired her middle son Jason during these years as he worked many jobs and was affectionately referred to as “Mom’s favorite” by his brothers. And when her youngest son Todd joined the Army she supported his dream to work in the Aviation field. She loved to watch all of her sons wrestle in home tournaments, but mostly she loved to make her boys sing to her whenever they were together. After her sons left Delta she kept herself busy with work and her amazing garden, which she was very proud, winning her numerous awards at the Deltana Fair.
Nancy could always be picked out of a crowd by her fire red curly hair she was known for. Her travels included a trip back to the East Coast to see where Ski was raised. Together they drove across the states making numerous stops for which she referred to as her dream vacation. She also made numerous trips to Hawaii to see her youngest son's wedding and births of her beloved grandchildren. Joined in Delta by her son Jason in 2010 she loved having her family near including her sister Cassy who also resides in Delta.
Nancy loved to take pictures of the mountains, lakes and streams around the Alaskan wilderness. She especially had a great eye for sunrises and sunsets, many of which were featured on the evening news which she would proudly post on social media for others to enjoy with her.
Nancy was preceded in death by her loving partner Ski; her parents Robert and Lavonne Koon; brother in law Danny Prior; and sister in-law Adrienne Koon. She is survived by her son Calvin Ellis, his wife Brenda, son Jason Ellis, his three children Robert, Heidi, and Autumn, and first great grandchild Nova Linn; son Todd Ellis, his wife Mary and their three children Tyler, Macy and Kyla. Her loving siblings Carol Prior, Bob Koon, and Cassy and Henry Muth also survive Nancy.
All will remember the amazing woman she was through their memories and stories that will pass. It gives the family comfort to know that she was met at the gate by Ski who she so strongly loved and missed so very much. A memorial service will be held at Delta Presbyterian Lutheran Church on Saturday June 11 at 2 p.m. and all who loved her are welcome to attend.
