Neil “Wayne” Burns passed away peacefully on June 13, 2020, at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
Wayne was born in Austin, Texas on February 14, 1951, to Neal and Jo Ann burns. He went to grade school in Fairbanks and graduated from high school in Kenai. He was a resident of the Delta area for 47 years.
Wayne was the owner of W-W Rentals in the late 70s and early 80s and later the owner of Floor Masters which specialized in carpeting as well as vinyl and ceramic tile applications and maintenance for residential and commercial applications.
Wayne enjoyed fishing for halibut, salmon and shrimp in Valdez and loved floating the Gulkana with friends. Wayne enjoyed playing cards, especially poker.
Wayne together with friends Cathy Martin and Charles and Patty Anderson worked hard putting together a para sailing outfit, which turned into great summer and winter fun.
Those who knew Wayne quickly learned that he was a huge Elvis Presley fan. He played the drums and sang in a small band with Vernell Lentz, Bill Queen, Mike Umpenhour, Wild Bill and others.
He was preceded in death by his father Neal, mother Jo Ann, brother Michael, stepfather Bill Leonard and best friends Charles Anderson and Jim Schooly. He is survived by sister Linda Hall, niece Jennifer Hall, nephew Michael Glover and long time friends Irene Sales and Cathy Martin.
There will be a Celebration of Life held at the Moose Lodge on Saturday July 11 beginning at 1 p.m.
