Psalm 91:1 states, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
This passage emphasizes that the person who has a true relationship with God and is striving to walk close to Him will have God’s favor upon him. Membership truly does have its privileges. It is a blessing just to know the true and living God Jesus Christ, and to be able to serve Him!
In this chapter the Psalmist stressed the many and wonderful joys of that relationship. The emphasis is that of protection. The Christian has the joy of knowing that God will only allow circumstances, good or bad, to come into his life as He sees fit. God “shields” us from so many things that would otherwise be detrimental, due to His love for us.
I read of a unique example of that years ago. A wildfire raged through a community which happened to have a few farms in the area. After the fire had caused much destruction to one farmer, in particular, he walked around his chicken coup area. He noticed a dead hen laying on the ground. As he bumped it with his boot, a couple of tiny chicks bolted out from under the dead hen’s wing. What a surprise! What a sacrifice!
That is what Jesus did for us when He went to the cross and died in our place. Jesus gave us life- life eternal- when we received Him by faith.
Think about it.
