Pastor's Pen by Cliff Henry

Hebrews 13:4 states,” Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”

We live in a culture that believes it is permissible to cohabitate or live together before marriage. Advocates of this lifestyle believe it to be a wise thing to “test-drive” the relationship before fully committing themselves 100 percent to the relationship. It is a trial-run. They rationalize that if a magazine can be placed on a trial run why not a possible marriage relationship? The logic may seem convincing at first, but it just doesn’t hold up to hard core facts. Jeffrey Larson conducted a 50-year research and came to the conclusion that, “couples who live together before marriage have a 50 percent greater chance of divorce than those who don’t live together.” He also stated that, “Psychologically, marriage seems to be a significantly different type of relationship. Cohabitation is not a trial marriage.” Unfortunately, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, unmarried and opposite-sex partners number in the millions.

As Hebrews 13:4 states, God will judge those type of relationships. He created marriage, and it is a beautiful and honorable estate. His blessings are upon the couple that follow the institution of holy matrimony. God’s displeasure rests upon the cohabitators. Don’t allow a difficult scenario to envelope your relationship due to your selfishness and disobedience.

 Think about it.
