Snow Plowing


Strong winds are causing travel problems on the Richardson Highway at Allen Army Airfield. As of 8:30 p.m. the north bound lane was impassable adjacent to the open runway areas due to drifting snow. The southbound lane was still open but could become covered with drifts overnight. Visibility at times is near zero.

One vehicle left the roadway this evening and rolled over. The occupant was uninjured.

Please use caution when driving in the area.

According to the National Weather Service, as of 8 p.m. the wind at Allen Army Airfield was out of the east at 24 mph with gusts of 33 mph. Winds are expected to continue overnight. A windchill advisory is in effect until Thursday with windchill possible to 50 below.

Drifts are also forming on other roads near open fields. Motorist should use caution in areas that traditionally drift when snow is out of the east.
