The Delta Husky girls came out strong this morning, taking first blood against the Hutchison Hawks at the Aurora Conference tournament in Valdez. Delta overpowered Hutchison in the first quarter with a commanding 13-4 lead at the end of the quarter. The Hawks woke up in the second, rebounding to take the lead just before the end of the half. Hutch took a 22-15 lead into the locker room. The Huskies didn’t give up, going point for point during the third. Battling to the end, Delta came up short, 42-37.

Andrea Solla came away with 15 points, Jocelynn Williams with eight, six for Aliyah Korovnik, four from Alexis York, and two apiece from Megan Kiser and Mersades Owen.

The girls take on the looser of the 5 p.m. Valdez vs Monroe game this evening on Friday, at 1 p.m.

The boys dominate Hutchison in their first game of the tournament leading 38-28 at the half over Hutchinson, Delta continued to maintain the lead during the second half. Taking advantage of some steals late in the fourth quarter, Delta stretched the lead to 18 with just over a minute to play, finishing with a 74-57 win.

Ben Bialik dominated the scoring with 27 for the Huskies. Jason Montes had 18, six each from Omar Powers and Drenen Magee, five for Ryan Zarecki, and four each from Cale Durham, Max Kilimnik and Austin Durham.

The Delta boys take on number one seated Valdez tonight at 6:30.
