Delta High School (DHS) Big Dog


The 2021 Aurora Conference Basketball Tournament came to a conclusion on Saturday with the Delta Huskies coming in third place after playing some very competitive games during the tournament.

On Friday evening, Monroe took first place by beating Valdez.

Saturday morning, the Huskies took on Hutchison in an animated duel that left the Huskies in the winning spot by a score of 62-59. This win advanced the team to compete for second place.

Saturday afternoon had our hometown Huskies taking on Valdez. The game was intense and the scoring was close. At the half Delta was on top 32-30. The close play continued all through the third quarter with Delta still on top 45-43.

In the fourth quarter, Valdez continued to score and our Huskies could not, adding only one point in the final quarter.

Valdez took the win and second place finish in the tournament. Delta came in third.

The Lady Huskies tournament came to an end on Saturday morning as they took on Hutchison. Delta lost 38-25.


Thursday marked the beginning of the 2021 Aurora Conference Basketball Tournament being held at the North Pole high school gym.

The Delta boys opened the tournament as they took on tournament host Eielson. Delta easily took the game 82-45. Ben Bialik was the leader on the score tally putting up 23 points. Austin Durham and Joelniel Gonzalez also impressively added 15 and 13 points respectively.

The boys retuned to the floor Thursday night to take on Monroe and suffered a 70-37 loss even with Bialik putting 14 points on the board.

Delta returned Friday morning to take on Galena who had suffered a defeat against Valdez Thursday evening. Delta came out on top 63-46 with Austin Durham putting up 27 points. Galena came out strong with the score tied at 11 each at the end of the first period. Delta stepped up in the second outscoring Galena 18-4 and taking a 29-15 lead into the locker room at the half.

Delta held onto their lead entering the final period up by 17. Galena got back into the game during the final period with both teams putting 14 points on the board.

The Delta boys are back on the floor at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The Delta girls likewise took on their counterparts from Eielson and the Delta girls handily took the game 53-14. Lourdes Lester racked up an amazing 25 points. Avenea Shestopalov also added 10 to the score.

The girls were back to take on top seated Monroe Thursday night and suffered at 60-13 loss.

Friday afternoon the girls took on Galena coming away with a 43-24 win to stay in the tournament. Lester put in 18 Friday afternoon.

The girls are back on the hardwood at 10:45 a.m. Saturday.
