Delta High School (DHS) Big Dog

This year started out with a lot of head scratching and planning over so many new players. As the season progressed there was so much improvement on the field that we had to make many changes to adjust for the new talent; we eventually found a solid plan of where to play our players. There were people with a lot of advice, and in the end we implemented a plan and players did not disappoint.

We had a terrific season, finishing 11-2-0 prior to earning a berth in the state tournament.

The Huskies led the league in goals scored this year with 64 goals. A few team leaders were: Patrick Kiser with 21 goals and Jacob Anderson with 25 goals. Luke Schmidt provided eight goals and 25 assists and Jacob Schmidt had four goals and five assists.

The players stepped up and really shined at the state tournament. Facing Lumen Christi High School in the first match ended in a 6 – 2 victory for Delta. The second day in the semi-championship Delta went up against the undefeated Cook Inlet Academy (CIA). After losing to CIA earlier in the season we were confident we could hang with them. Around 15 minutes into the game we had a beautiful play originating from a thrown in by Magan Hancock to Luke Schmidt, who passed it across to Jacob Schmidt who put it back across to Jacob Anderson, who put it in the goal. After that, it was all about keeping the ball away from CIA's top guns, of which the Huskies did a great job. The match ended in a 1 – 0 victory for Delta, setting up a match against Susitna Valley High School for the championship game.

The championship game was rough from the start. The Huskies worked hard and played a great game. In the end, Su Valley won 2 – 0, and the huskies took second place in the state.

I want to thank Colin Barnard for his countless hours, work and coaching. He has been an integral part of this program for three years and has provided much instruction and support. He has been an excellent role model for our players! I also want to thank Andrea Barnard and Christy Hanson for chaperoning the gals.

I want to thank the parents who donated items and worked at the fundraisers for the team. Great season Delta Huskies!!!
