Raven Home School has scheduled its own scholarship interview night after Delta High School informed Raven that its scholarship interview night is only open to Delta/Greely School District students.
According to Brett Stirling, Delta High School principal, the event has always been for Delta/Greely students exclusively.
“Everything I have been able to find out says it is for DHS students only,” Sterling said in a phone interview last week.
Julie Szidloski, administrative assistant with Raven, said when she contacted Delta High School about getting information for Raven students for the annual scholarship interview night, which she has done in the past, she was told that the event being held at Delta High School on May 2 was for Delta/Greely students only. Szidloski said she had understood that in the past the event has been open to all students looking to apply for scholarships.
According to Szidloski, Raven is scheduling an event for May 3 between 4 and 6 p.m., the afternoon following the Delta High School event. She said students interested need to stop by Raven Home School in the Jarvis West building. The packets will need to be returned by 4:30 p.m. on April 30.
Szidloski stressed that any student eligible for a scholarship, regardless of if they attend the Raven school or not, is welcome to schedule an interview.
She said they have been able to reach out to most of groups that are participating in the Delta High School event, and representatives have agreed to come to the Raven event if there is an applicant who is interested in one of their scholarships.
Delta Wind contacted several of the groups scheduled to attend the Delta High School event on May 2 to conduct interviews – all of which give community-wide scholarships – and each of the groups thought the night at the high school was open to all students who were interested in the scholarships. Some of the groups do limit who is eligible for their scholarships.
Szidloski said anyone that wanted more information could contact Raven at 895-2280.
