Huskies get encouragement from Coach Schmitt

After the Delta Huskies won their first two games at home last week, it was time for them to hit the road. The Huskies traveled all the way down to Soldotna to play the three-time champion Cook Inlet Academy Eagles.

CIA was very proud of their 62-game winning streak – that is, until the Huskies came to town. The DHS Huskies not only beat CIA, they shut them out. The final score was 6-0. The last time CIA lost was also to the Huskies.

The overall team play was very good. Senior Nathan Anderson scored early in the game around the three-minute mark, and then went on to put four more in the net. Junior Tanner Michie scored as well. Senior Raul Rivera assisted on three.

Late in the game, Rivera crossed the ball perfectly from the corner, and Michie was there to score his first goal for this season. The huskies committed only one foul for the game and did a great job shutting down the three strong CIA players.

Delta traveled back to Anchorage to play a tough Holy Rosary team. The Knights were very impressive and played a very good game, while the Huskies started off sluggish. The Huskies, however, went on to shut out the Knights 3-0. Goals were scored by Anderson, Rivera and Bogdan Kravats. Rivera had 1 assist.

Saturday morning was the third game in as many days for the Huskies. An exhausted team took to the pitch and ended the first half leading 2-1.  A pep talk at half time pumped up the team, and the Huskies scored an additional 7 goals in the second half to win the game 9-1.

The Huskies had a great weekend with a total of 148 shots, a formidable defense, and outscoring their opponents 18-1.  The Huskies are 5 (wins) and 0 (losses) to start their season. Delta travels to Anderson to take on Nenana on Saturday at 10 a.m. GO HUSKIES!!!
