The Delta Junction Trails Association (DJTA) hosted their annual Celebrate the Sun gathering at Quartz Lake on March 9. Around 75 people stopped by the DJTA rented cabin to sign in to the free event and to grab some hot cocoa and cookies before exploring the lake. Folks enjoyed activities such as ice fishing, ice bowling, and beach volleyball – when the wind didn’t steal the ball away! Swedish logs were set up and burned around the lake to keep participants warm, along with a bonfire for hotdogs and s’mores. Several people took advantage of the 40 degree weather to hike around the lake. Fish and Game biologist, Brandy Baker, brought an underwater camera so hopeful fishers could watch as fish swam around just under the ice.
