John Sloan and Mary Saarloos

Mark your calendar. August 11 is the date set for a 60+ triathlon. You need to be 60 years of age this year to participate. This is a bike, hike, and paddle event designed especially for the slightly older set. The event will begin at 11 a.m. with a 2.5- or 5-mile bike ride from Lost Lake Campground and back to Lost Lake Campground. From there you'll hike the trail (approximately 1.5 miles) to Quartz Lake, via Glatfelder Cabin. To finish the event, you'll paddle from the boat landing and around a buoy in Quartz Lake in a kayak or canoe.

This is a non-competitive event with an emphasis on fun, exercise, camaraderie, and personal satisfaction. A picnic at the Quartz Lake pavilion will follow sponsored by Buffalo Center Drive -In. Burgers, hot dogs, drinks, and chips will be provided. Feel free to bring any accouterments to the picnic you'd like, ie. chips, cookies, salad, veggies, etc.

You'll need your own bike and walking shoes, but kayaks and canoes will be provided. If you'd like to use your own kayak or canoe, please bring it to Quartz Lake boat launch prior to the beginning of the event.

Please call John Sloan at 907-322-4391. Call soon to get on the roster. There is a $5 parking fee to park in the state campground.

Volunteers needed. Give John a call if you like to help.
